Six-figure Toby Sibbick Blackpool transfer bid thrown out by Hearts

Hearts have rejected a six-figure bid from Blackpool for Sunday’s Edinburgh derby hero Toby Sibbick.

The defender scored a stunning third goal for Hearts deep into injury-time as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over rivals Hibernian at Easter Road.

Sibbick ran the length of the pitch before clipping a cool finish over David Marshall to rub salt into the wounds of their city foes.

The 23-year-old has subsequently been targeted by Blackpool, who have been impressed by the former Barnsley stopper’s recent displays.

But Hearts have turned down the offer from the English Championship side, who appointed Mick McCarthy as their new manager last week.

Sibbick has two more seasons left on the three-and-a-half-year deal he penned with Hearts 12 months ago and the Jambos do not want to sell, viewing the versatile centre-half as a player capable of making huge improvements in the coming campaigns.

On his strike against Edinburgh rivals Hibs, Sibbick said: “If I don’t take the first touch, although it was heavy, I don’t necessarily think I score. It brings the keeper out a bit.

"If it was too close to my body he would’ve stayed on his line and the angle’s tighter. But the first touch brought him out and I just thought, ‘Just dink it over him’ and fortunately it worked. So I’m happy with it.

“It was my first goal here at the club, I haven’t scored many in my career, it’s something I need to work on. To score and send the fans home happy – and they were going wild at the time – was an amazing feeling."
