Six-figure sum of whisky stolen from Chivas yard in Paisley as police launch investigation

Police have launched an investigation after a six-figure sum of whisky was stolen from a yard belonging to Chivas Whisky Brothers in Paisley.

Officers say the incident happened around 2am on Thursday morning.

Police have now released images of vehicles in connection with the 'clearly targeted and co-ordinated' theft, as they seek further information.

A Police Scotland statement published today reads: "Police in Renfrewshire are issuing images as they appeal for information following a break-in and theft in Paisley.

"The incident happened around 2am on Thursday, 17 October 2019, at the secure yard belonging to Chivas Whisky Brothers on Abercorn Street.

"A significant amount of whisky, worth a six-figure sum, was stolen.

"Officers are eager to trace a white-coloured cab with a blue trailer carrying a red container in connection with this, which was last "seen driving on Renfrew Road towards the M8 shortly after 2am.

"The blue trailer is marked AD168 on the rear and the red container is about 20ft in length."

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff of Greenock CID added: "This was clearly a targeted and co-ordinated theft that has been carried out with the plan to sell the alcohol on illegally.

"I would ask anyone who was in the area between 1.20am and 2.20am on Thursday and saw the vehicle, or anything suspicious, to contact us.

"If you were driving in the Paisley area, or on the M8, between these times and may have seen the vehicle or captured this on dashcam we'd urge you to get in touch as soon as possible."

Those with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3502 of 17 October 2019, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
