Six family activities you can still do in Glasgow this Christmas and New Year

Christmas is a time for family.

After last year's covid-curtailed festivities, we all deserve to make the most of all the time we can spend together this Christmas.

While Covid restrictions are still lurking, there are still plenty of ways to make some festive memories with your nearest and dearest.

Grab your wooliest hats, thickest coats, masks and anti-bac - it's time to turn your Christmas downtime into something special with a family-friendly, festive day out.

Whatever you are comfortable doing, we have plenty ideas on how you can enjoy the magic of Glasgow over Christmastime!

Put on a show

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Glasgow without a heartwarming festive tale. Running until December 24, the Tron Theatre are showing Olive the Other Reindeer, their own unique spin on the quintessential Christmas classic tale of Rudolph and Santa.

Little ones are guaranteed to get into the Christmas spirit.

Catch up on culture

If you’ve fallen behind on getting your cultural fix in the last year then the quiet days between Christmas and New Year can be a great time to tick a few things off the list.

And there’s a lot to enjoy at one of Scotland's most popular visitor attractions. The Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery is open during its usual hours up to and including 23 December, 27-30 December and from January 3.

Get your skates on

If you’d rather enjoy the great outdoors, be sure to check out Scotland’s biggest ice rink at Elfingrove's The Ice Experience.

Grab your wooliest hats and thickest coats and head outside to the stunningly-lit Kelvingrove Museum from December 2 to 24.

Tuck in at one of Glasgow’s top restaurants

Finding a reservation at one of the city’s most popular restaurants in the run up to Christmas can feel like an impossible task, but things tend to empty out once the big day has passed.

So if there’s somewhere you’ve always wanted to try, there's no time like the present. The likes of Cail Bruich - Glasgow’s only Michelin starred restaurant - the Gannet, Five March, Ox and Finch, Number 16 and plenty of other places usually all-booked out so nab a table while you can.

Go for a winter walk

While we’re not holding our breath in expectation of a white Christmas in the city this year, you can count on Glasgow’s parks to provide a stunning backdrop to a wintry walk.

From Queen’s Park and Kelvingrove Park to Glasgow Green, there’s a lot of choice — here are some of the best.

Settle down for a cosy meal

Warm your cockles with some good old fashioned pub grub by taking refuge inside one the city’s cosy family-friendly venues.

The likes of Celino's in the west end, Church on the Hill in the south side and Coia's Cafe on Duke Street offer kids menus and delicious meals that will leave everyone satisfied.
