Six Edinburgh landmarks will light up purple tonight to raise awareness of epilepsy

Six Edinburgh landmarks will light up purple tonight to help awareness of epilepsy.

Dozens of buildings across Scotland while shine bright as part of the Paint the Town Purple Campaign.

This comes on Purple Day – a day organised to help educate people about the neurological condition and go towards diminishing the social stigma that surrounds it.

Edinburgh Castle, Camera Obscura, Kings Theatre, Prestonfield House, The Witchery and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre will all be lit up tonight. The Civic Centre in Livingston is also getting involved.

Around 55,000 people are affected by epilepsy in Scotland, and people can develop the condition at any time in their lives – and on average eight people do so each day across the country.

Lesslie Young, chief executive at Epilepsy Scotland, said: “Purple Day is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of epilepsy.

“We are grateful to everyone who is raising money for Epilepsy Scotland and have fundraising activities planned, as their support is needed more than ever before due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are delighted that so many landmarks across the whole of Scotland are supporting our Paint the Town Purple campaign. These displays help us raise awareness of the condition with the aim of diminishing the social stigma that surrounds it.

“We hope to see people sharing their photos of their own purple day activities and pictures of landmarks and buildings being lit up purple on Purple Day.”
