Six dead after car crashes into holidaymakers at tourist hotspot

Six holidaymakers have been killed after a car crashed into a group of 17 people at a tourist hotspot in Italy.

The victims were from a German travel group - with several others injured in the late-night incident in Luttach in the Ahrntal Valley.

The 27-year-old driver of the car, who failed a breath test for alcohol, has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, a police spokesman said.

The six died at the scene as 160 emergency services rushed to help them in front of the Hotel Post, report Rainews.

The 11 injured were taken to hospitals in South Tyrol and Innsbruck after they were struck by an Audi.

One woman was also flown to a hospital in Austria.

Luttach is in South Tyrol, northern Italy, and is a popular tourist destination all year round for skiing and winter sports.
