Six by Nico closes and then reopens with new team after positive covid case

Popular Liverpool restaurant Six by Nico was forced to close after a staff member tested positive for Covid-19 - but has now reopened with an entirely new team.

The North John Street restaurant, well known for its revolving themes and differing takes on cuisines, took swift action after the staff member tested positive for the virus on Monday.

The restaurant closed immediately on Monday at 6pm, with dining bookings cancelled and the whole staff team receiving instructions to self-isolate by the NHS Track and Trace system.

Restaurant bosses said they then immediately began a deep clean of the restaurant.

The venue was able to then reopen on Tuesday because an entire reserve staff team were brought in from Scotland, where the chain of restaurants originates.

Explaining the situation, Six By Nico's Chief Operating Officer, Rachael Rafferty said: "Unfortunately one of the members in our back of house kitchen team tested positive for Covid-19 and as such, are now in quarantine according to public health guidelines.

"All information was passed onto track and trace and our kitchen team all received messages to self isolate and get tested.

"These team members are undergoing the necessary medical testing, and the restaurant closed immediately at 18:00pm on Monday 14.

"All our restaurants follow strict hygiene protocols and the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is paramount and Six by Nico Liverpool underwent a deep clean over the 24 hour period between Monday 14 at 16:30pm and Tuesday 15 at 16:30pm when we reopened.

"As an additional precaution, we implemented a new team from Scotland who were brought in to service the restaurant from Tuesday following the deep clean.

"This team are currently staying until all staff are tested and safe to return to work."
