Site of former Liverpool pub to be transformed with 28 new homes

Proposals to build 28 new homes on the site of a former community pub have been approved by Liverpool Council.

Members of the planning committee approved plans from Romaltra for new homes on the site of the Hermitage Tavern on Lilly Grove, just off Queens Drive, at a meeting this morning.

The designs will see two terraced rows containing 16 homes built facing Lilly Grove itself, with a further three storey block facing Queens Drive containing 12 apartments.

The Hermitage Tavern has been closed for years, with the building being torn down between four and five years ago.

Members of the council’s planning committee were recommended to approve the plans, with officer reports saying the site currently offers little value to the surrounding area.

The report said: “The site has little amenity value for recreation as it is a private site, secured by a wooden perimeter fence and locked gates with no public access.

“The site also has little visual amenity value, as it is overgrown and unmanaged and it is considered that significant weight should be given to the positive contribution the residential development would make to housing supply in Liverpool.

“There are regeneration benefits insofar as the proposal would enable the more efficient use of an under-used site with a development of residential homes which would make an important contribution to the provision of housing in the wider city.”

The plans also include a garden area for the terraced homes.

Hundreds of residents were contacted about the plans, with the main opposition to the proposals being mainly concerned with increases in traffic on Lilly Grove.

However, committee members approved the proposals, meaning development can now start.
