Site lets you check instantly if your area is in lockdown

A new site has been launched to provide instant advice on whether your area has been placed into lockdown - and what restrictions have been imposed.

The site offers advice to people across the UK, drawing information from the governments for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The information will prove critical as the country moves away from nation-wide lockdown measures to 'local lockdowns'.

The Government has given authority to local councils and to ministers to impose lockdowns on cities, towns or even smaller areas in order to crack down on coronavirus outbreaks.

The local lockdowns can mean that one street is under while restrictions while another - or even the other side of the road - is not.

The site, lockdownchecker, will tell you what the watchlist status of your area is - showing whether it is likely measures could be imposed soon.

It also shows what is open and what is closed, and whether you can meet up with friends and family members.
