An urban development group for the Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho areas of Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, is doing beta testing for TOKYO OASIS, a website that shows various walking routes that allow people to stay cool during the summer.
There is a fear that people will suffer from heatstroke because they are wearing masks whenever they are outside and their bodies are not used to the heat as a result of trying to stay home due to the coronavirus.
To ease these fears, TOKYO OASIS provides users with information by the hour on areas that are in the shade of buildings or trees to help them stay a little cooler by walking in the shade.
The site locates the user's current position on a map and directs them to the nearest shady "oasis" locations.
The site will be beta tested until the end of September and is available in English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish. Users can access the TOKYO OASIS website for free.
