Site chosen to restore full-time Post Office to village

Calderbank will once again have a full-time Post Office after a new location was chosen for the important community facility.

The site will be at the Day Today Store on the Monklands village Main Street and is set to open its doors on May 19, at 1pm.

The previous Calderbank Post Office at Firview temporarily closed in June 2019. The new location is 275m away.

The fresh facility will operate as a new-style local branch with Post Office services provided from an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter of the new convenience store.

It will be open from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 6pm, and Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, providing 58 hours of Post Office service a week for villagers.

The Post Office is inviting people to put forward views and suggestions, with a spokesperson saying: "We are keen to restore services to this community as soon as possible, so we have decided to go ahead with our plans.

"However, we would welcome suggestions about specific aspects of the change regarding access into and inside the new premises."

Steven Simpson, Network Provision Lead, added: “We are delighted to be restoring a full-time Post Office to Calderbank, as we know how important Post Office services are to a community.”

Feedback on the move can be submitted online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 268855 until April 29.
