Sisters' sugar-free treats get massive boost with backing from Sainsbury's

A sugar-free snack brand set up by two sisters has bagged a space on the shelves at a major supermarket.

Gracie and Sophie Tyrrell, founders of the The Squirrel Sisters sugar free snacks have secured a three-month trial for their products at Sainsbury's.

Included are their Cacao Brownie Share Bags, Cacao Orange Share Bags, Peanut Caramel Snack Bars and Peanut Raspberry Snack Bars.

The duo have also secured major retail listings in the USA.

Gracie said: "Supermarkets have the power when it comes to influencing consumer choice. Walk into most supermarkets to be bombarded with processed, sugary, unhealthy products piled high, on offer and bulk deals - making them hard to resist for even the most strong willed shopper.

"Small brands like Squirrel Sisters no added sugar snacks can make all the difference but getting space on shelves often comes down to which brands have the biggest marketing budget. That’s why it’s so good to see retailers like Sainsbury's supporting small brands and prioritising the needs and health of their customers."

The sisters, who grew up Bath, also sell their own lines through their own online sugar free shop.

The pair first embarked on their sugar-free venture after a serious health scare for Sophie who was diagnosed with a life threatening heart condition, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome at the age of just 25.

Nursed back to health by Gracie, the duo vowed to pursue their sugar free journey, setting up Squirrel Sisters online shop selling their own brand product lines alongside sugar free essentials.

The pair left behind high-flying careers to pursue their dream. Gracie worked in film and TV in the UK and Sophie was a Business Development Director for a design agency in Singapore.

Their sugar-free journey has also been highlighted by fashion and lifestyle bible Vogue .
