Sister thanks mystery man who saved stabbed boy's life by holding bleeding wound

The family of a 17-year-old boy knifed repeatedly in his back on Bonfire Night have thanked a Good Samaritan who they believe "saved his life."

Adam Traverse was stabbed as hundreds of families made their way to Sherdley Park for St Helens Council's firework display last night.

Shocked children saw another teenager brandishing a blade "as long as your forearm" as many were left traumatised after seeing the teenager in a pool of blood.

Today, his shocked sister Amy described her brother as a "warrior" and told of her gratitude for a stranger who helped her stricken sibling at the side of the road.

She said: "I just want to say thank you to the man that found my brother passed out and held the stab wound in his back until the ambulance came...

"You've saved his life!

"Please share, as I’m not aware who it was, but my brother remembers you helping him when he came around."

Last night, a worried Amy wrote on social media: "On my way to the hospital because silly boys think it’s fun to stab my little brother.

"Absolutely gutted.

"If anyone knows anything please let me know because he’s not in the best of way, as far as I’m aware."

And she added: "He's [Adam] very poorly and confused, but in the hands of the right people."

The incident happened on Marshalls Cross Road at around 7.30pm following what police described as "an altercation on the grass verge by the roadway."

Adam's condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.

A man, 17, from Warrington, has been arrested for assault.

Merseyside Police described the stabbing as "shocking" "brutal and reckless."

Terrified mum Nikki, 22, was on her way with her partner, two children, aged two and four before she saw a "lad with a huge knife".

She said: "It was definitely a kitchen knife, but it was there to cause harm, it was huge. No one should have had knives there.

"I feel awful to say it now but I just pulled my son by the scruff of his neck and pulled him away back to the road.

"Then we saw a young lad on the floor next to a burger van and there was loads of people around him trying to help him.

"They were just stood round him and putting pressure on him."

Nikki was so horrified by the frightening scenes she vomited when she returned to her car after crying, she said.
