It can be tricky to know what to wear to the wedding of a close relative, with tradition dictating that you shouldn't arrive wearing anything resembling a bridal gown. A woman has now been slammed for turning up to her brother's wedding in a floor-length dress with floral applique details, a gown which arguably wouldn't have looked out of place if worn by the bride herself.
Selling the 'beautiful' dress on Facebook Marketplace, the wedding guest explained she'd bought it just last month for her brother's wedding. She's only worn the gown once and says it set her back a cool £1,230 ($1,500) at the time of purchase.

The gown doesn't appear to be white, rather a very pale shade of lavender, but some have argued that it's a pretty bold look for a wedding guest.
The outfit choice has left people divided, with some accusing the woman of 'upstaging the bride' by wearing something so bridal. On the other hand, others have reasoned the gown could be considered entirely 'appropriate' at a more formal wedding, and therefore more context is needed to make the call.
A screenshot of the controversial listing was shared on Reddit's wedding shaming forum by user u/narsenau, who wrote: "Saw this on [Facebook] marketplace, it looks an awful lot like a wedding dress..."
One person wrote: "My first thought, before I noticed the sub, was, 'Wow, that's a gorgeous wedding dress!'"
Another commented: "Thats [sic] an interesting choice to wear to a wedding. Cant [sic] imagine the bride was thrilled."
Others however were more forgiving, with a third individual remarking: "I wore a silver dress that looked pretty pale to a wedding once and people were super judgy about it until they found out the bride picked it out with me.
"I was doing a reading and she wanted me to look like I went with the theme in pictures."
A fourth agreed: "Looks vaguely purple to me. Depending on the theme of the wedding it could have been perfectly appropriate. I've been to one."
Others added that, in a number of cultures, it's not always expected that the bride will wear white, meaning a long, pale wedding guest dress wouldn't have been considered a faux pas at certain ceremonies.
