Sister pays tribute to 'warrior' actress after sudden death from cruel disease

A woman paid tribute to a much-loved sister after her sudden death from cystic fibrosis at the age of 34.

Jennifer O'Mahony, from Bootle, was a popular actress and writer who refused to let her condition get in the way of her career.

In fact, many of her friends didn't even know she had cystic fibrosis before her sudden death on February 5.

As a professional actress going under the name Jennifer Bea, she appeared in many TV shows including The Royle Family and the daytime BBC drama WPC 56, and as a mermaid in a childrens' drama made for German television.

She starred in the award-winning short film The Big Day, and also featured in numerous TV commercials and wrote for Liverpool's Royal Court and Unity theatres.

Her elder sister Kelly Ramsay, 42, said: "My sister was a warrior, not a victim. She was the bravest person.

"She never told anyone about her condition because she didn't want to be defined by her illness.

"She had so many friends who were all shocked at her death because they never knew she was sick. She just got on with it."

Kelly has since started a Gofundme page in her sister's memory, and is now planning a range of further charity events.

She said: "To begin with, it was to raise money for cystic fibrosis research, but after we smashed that target I decided to continue raising funds to buy the CF ward at Alder Hey some PlayStations or Xboxes.

"The kids are all in isolation for two weeks at a time and don't even get visitors. I just want to make their stay a little bit better for them."
