Sister of tragic teen pays tribute to her 'bright' character and 'heart of gold'

The big sister of a tragic 19-year-old from West Lothian has told of her “bright” spirit and her love for fashion.

Emily Macfarlane, from Blackburn, West Lothian, has been remembered by older sister Caitlyn Kennon, 22, as “unique” and a “stunning” girl.

The 19-year-old, who had dreams of going to university, was tragically found dead this week.

Her family and friends have shared pleas to people to “check on those you love” on social media.

Emily's twin sister Rebecca and little brother Luke, 14, have been left devastated by their tragic loss.

Her eldest sister Caitlyn Kennon said Emily was a "stunning girl" who had a passion for music, books and fashion.

She told the Daily Record: “She had a heart of gold.

"She was one of the most outgoing, smart, beautiful people you could ever meet.”

Emily worked in Edinburgh Airport and had previously been employed in River Island.

She was planning to go to university and had a passion for music, books and fashion.

“She had a record player and loved music,” said Caitlyn.

“She loved Nirvana. She went through a phase when she was younger of being quite gothic.

“Then she bloomed into this stylish, stunning girl.

“She loved clothes, she had so many clothes on her rack, bags and bags.

“She also loved books, she read Stephen King and Matt Haig.”

Caitlyn added: “You would never come across a person that was as unique and bright.”

Her sister also told how she adored her black and white cat Klaus who, Caitlyn said, "saved her from many dark times".

Following Emily’s passing, Caitlyn is now urging everyone to check closely on those they love.

She said: “No matter how happy someone seems, no matter how outgoing, please, please check on them.

“This just goes to show that no matter how strong you are, there will always be something that triggers.”

Close friends of Emily’s took to social media to remember her.

Amy Burt, her best friend since nursery, shared a post saying: “I’m so sorry you felt this was your only option.

“I wish you knew how many people loved you and how much your life truly meant to everyone."

Another friend Miryn McGonnal said: “It’s scary to think this time last year we were planning a trip to Amsterdam or how even just the other day we were planning our next gigs together.”

She added: “I love and miss you so much, you are all the colours in one, at full brightness.

“Please always check up on your loved ones.”
