Sister of tragic Lyra McKee asks her killers to hand themselves in

Sister of tragic Lyra McKee has appealed to her killers to hand themselves in.

Journalist Lyra, 29, was fatally shot while covering the riots in Creggan, Derry last month.

Sister Nichola Corner said: “Those people need to really think about handing themselves in.

“As far as I'm concerned, that's the least these people can do. Anyone who's helping them or guarding them or protecting them, they need to do the right thing as well.”

Speaking fondly about her beloved sister, Nichola also said that the memory of her sister is what keeps her moving forward when she’s faltering.

She told Channel 4 News: “When I could feel myself faltering, I could just hear her say, “come on, Nic, you can do it. Do it for me. Do it for me”.

"And when I looked down at her wee coffin, I just took a deep breath, focused myself again on the script, and just promised her that I will do my best.”

She added: “We have to make Lyra’s legacy not just about the political landscape but about changing society.”

Three men and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with the death of Lyra on Thursday.

The four males, aged 15, 18, 38 and 51, were arrested in Derry under terrorism legislation, following a series of searches in the area.

They were taken to the serious crime suite in Musgrave Station, Belfast where they are currently being questioned by detectives.
