Sister of acquitted Jill Dando murder suspect Barry George says he 'struggles everyday'

Barry George “struggles everyday” 19 years on from being charged with the murder of TV presenter Jill Dando, revealed his sister Michelle Diskin.

Jill was shot dead on her doorstep in 1999, and a year later he was charged over her death before questions were raised over the evidence.

He was later released after being cleared of all charges in 2008, with no other suspects arrested since then.

ITV are now airing a new documentary featuring both Barry and his sister Michelle, called Jill Dando: The 20 Year Mystery.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, Michelle had her say on the crime 20 years on, while revealing how her brother has coped since being released.

Telling hosts Richard Bacon and Susanna Reid what she believed proved his innocence, she confessed her brother “struggled everyday”.

She explained: “He struggles everyday because everyday he wakes up and he thinks, ‘Can I find that new piece of evidence that will prove for once and for all I didn’t do this?'

“When he’s going to bed at night he’s wondering what might he find the next day.

“So his whole day, everyday, is how do I prove this?”

Michelle also talked of how despite being acquitted, he will never be deemed innocent by the justice system unless someone else is charged with the crime, with the mystery still unsolved.

She said: “It’s not enough for him because it’s not enough… the justice system say he hasn’t proven his innocence beyond a reasonable doubt.”

This means he isn’t entitled to compensation or an apology, because no one else has been held accountable for the crime.

The documentary Jill Dando: The 20 Year Mystery airs at 9pm on ITV on Thursday night.
