Sister and brother admit fraud after using stolen bank cards

A brother and sister who admitted using stolen bank cards have been handed jail terms.

Martin and Kathleen Bond both have backgrounds of drug-misuse, Bristol Crown Court heard.

They both admitted using bank cards stolen from a break-in in Weston-super-Mare, to withdraw £700.

Martin Bond, 32, of Cowper Road in Cheltenham and Kathleen Bond, 35, of Hathaway House, Cheltenham, admitted fraud on October 26 last year.

A charge of handling stolen goods was also admitted by Martin Bond after he was found with a gold-coloured chain stolen in the raid.

Judge Martin Picton jailed Kathleen Bond for nine months and her brother for 13 months.

He told Kathleen: "The offences are seriously aggravated by your prior convictions, which are awful."

The judge ordered that the chain found with Martin Bond be returned to its owner.

The pair are likely to be released immediately owing to time served on remand.

Nicholas Lee, prosecuting, said a property in Weston-super-Mare was burgled in October 26 last year and items including documents, bank cards and jewellery was stolen.

Kathleen Bond was captured on CCTV using stolen bank cards to make withdrawals of £500, £100 and £100.

When police moved in on the suspects, Martin Bond was found with a gold-coloured chain taken in the burglary.

They initially denied wrongdoing but both pleaded guilty to fraud and were sentenced immediately.

Steven Young, defending Kathleen Bond, said she had a background of drug-misuse but had arranged for future support.

Jason Coulter, defending Martin Bond, said: "Like his sister he will return to Cheltenham - he has detoxed in prison and has achieved top trustee status."
