Whoopi Goldberg has suggested that a third Sister Act film could be on its way.

The actor played Sister Mary Clarence in the hit 1992 musical comedy Sister Act, as well as its 1993 sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.

Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Goldberg revealed that she would be interested in reprising the role once again.

“Why hasn’t Sister Act 3 happened?” Corden asked her.

“Because, for a long time, they kept saying no-one wanted to see it,” Goldberg replied. "And then quite recently, it turns out that that may not be true. People might want to see it.

“We are working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back”.

Sister Act told the story of disco singer Deloris Van Cartier (Goldberg), who joins a convent after being entered into the witness protection programme.

Maggie Smith starred as Mother Superior alongside Goldberg in the original film, while Harvey Keitel played the villainous mobster Vince LaRocca.

As well as spawning a sequel, the film was also adapted into a hit stage musical, which transferred to the West End in 2009. Goldberg is due to reprise her Deloris role in a West End revival of the musical in 2021.
