Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed on Tuesday Cairo's full support for the security and stability of Sudan.
"Egypt is keen on continuing joint cooperation between the two countries at all levels in the light of the deep-rooted historical ties and the distinguished relations between the two countries, governments and peoples," said a presidential statement on Tuesday.
Sisi considered Sudan's security an "extension of the Egyptian national security."
His statement was made as he received Sudan’s First Vice President and Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf and head of the National Intelligence and Security Services Salah Gosh in the attendance of Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shokri, Intelligence Chief General Abbas Kamel and Sudan’s Ambassador to Cairo.
Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said that Sisi congratulated Ibn Auf on his new post as first vice president and sent regards to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
Ibn Auf praised ongoing efforts to foster joint cooperation between the two countries especially by intensifying mutual visits of high-ranking officials from both sides. He also lauded the unlimited Egyptian support for Sudan’s safety and stability.
Sudan looks forward to benefiting from the pioneering role of Egypt in the region and its inspiring development experience, Ibn Auf added. He also conveyed the greetings of Bashir, affirming the rapprochement between the Sudanese and Egyptian governments and peoples.
The meeting discussed bilateral ties on all levels, said Radi, and stressed the necessity of completing the project of electricity linkage between Egypt and Sudan as well as studies on railway networks.
