Sisi Says Egypt Following Up on COVID-19 Vaccine Trials

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed that his country was following up on the ongoing vaccine trials and promoting scientific cooperation through Egyptian research authorities.

His remarks came in a recorded speech during his virtual participation in the Global Vaccine Summit hosted by the United Kingdom.

According to Ambassador Bassam Radhi, the official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency, the summit was held with the aim of mobilizing the necessary financial resources to provide vaccines for developing countries and rebuilding the stock of vaccines for the next five years, thereby contributing to maintaining the health of 800 million children around the world.

“President Sisi stressed during his speech the necessity of not allowing the coronavirus pandemic to weaken the international community’s attention to other infectious diseases that the world had previously sought to prevent their spread,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Egyptian Prime Minister, emphasized “cooperation between the Egyptian ministries and agencies to confront the virus.”

Madbouly was speaking during a review of a report by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on the Ministry’s efforts to combat the virus.

Also on Thursday, the Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center emphasized a previous decision regarding penalties for breaching precautionary measures.

“Anyone, who violates the implementation of any of these procedures will be punished with imprisonment and a fine not exceeding 4,000 EGP,” the statement said.
