Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received in Cairo on Saturday head of Sudan’s ruling military council General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Burhan is on his first trip since taking power following the April ouster of president Omar al-Bashir after months of protests.
Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said Sisi had received Burhan at the capital's Ittihadia Palace. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and head of intelligence Abbas Kamel.
Sisi welcomed Burhan in Egypt and underlined the depth of ties with Sudan, said Radi.
The president is following closely the developments in Sudan and Egypt completely supports its stability and security, said Sisi according to the spokesman.
Egypt backs the people’s free will and their choices in shaping their future, he added.
Cairo is prepared to present all forms of support to Sudan to help it overcome this current phase in a way that meets the aspirations of the people away from foreign meddling, he continued.
For his part, Burhan hailed Cairo’s “unlimited” support to the people of Sudan and their choices to preserve their country’s security and stability amid the current historic transition.
Burhan is set to participate in the upcoming Arab and Islamic summits that are scheduled for Makkah on May 30 and Saturday.
A Sudanese delegation is set to depart for the holy city to take part in the preparations for the summits.
