Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian leader Vladimir Putin have announced commitment to reaching a political solution in Syria, Libya and the Palestinian territories through international resolutions.

During a meeting with his Russian counterpart in Sochi, on the sidelines of the first Russia-Africa Summit, Sisi voiced keenness to foster partnership ties with Russia.

This falls under the continuous development of relations that was embodied by signing the Comprehensive Strategic Agreement during Sisi's last visit to Russia in October 2018.

The Egyptian president hailed bilateral cooperation and joint projects that will be executed soon.

Presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said Wednesday that Sisi stressed the importance of finding tangible outcomes to the agreements reached at the Russia-Africa Summit for the best interest of African nations.

Sisi expressed willingness to boost cooperation between the two countries in Africa, especially with Egypt chairing the AU for 2019.

The spokesman revealed that Putin expressed delight for co-chairing with Sisi the first edition of the summit, which aims at fostering historic ties between Russia and the African continent in addition to reinforcing bilateral talks on means to facing joint challenges.

Putin noted that ongoing coordination and consultation on international and regional issues is of high importance.

He further lauded Egypt’s role as a pillar for security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.

During the meeting, the presidents discussed several issues including joint efforts to resume Russian flights to Egypt as well as cooperation in developing transportation.

They also discussed the cooperation mechanism on security and combating terrorism.
