Egypt is keen to bolster and support its strategic partnership with the United States, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Wednesday.

He pointed to the over four-decade long military and security ties that contributed to stability efforts in the Middle East in light of the tension and turmoil.

Sisi’s remarks were made during talks with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Cairo.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Chief of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel attended the meeting, along with Middle East and North Africa Coordinator at the US National Security Council (NSC) Brett McGurk, Senior Advisor to Sullivan Ariana Berengaut, Head of North Africa Department at NSC Joshua Harris and Deputy US Ambassador to Cairo Carole Shampaine.

Washington looks forward to bolster and develop the strategic coordination and cooperation with Cairo in the future, Sullivan said.

According to the Egyptian presidency, Sullivan hailed Egypt’s pivotal and balanced role in the region, noting that it is considered a key factor for the success of efforts to achieve security, stability and peace.

He also praised its effective efforts in confronting terrorism and extremist ideology, the statement added.

Both senior officials also tackled the developments in the region, especially in Libya, Tunisia, Syria, Yemen and Iraq, and agreed to intensify joint bilateral coordination.

They addressed the developments in the Palestinian cause and means to revive the peace process, the presidential spokesman said.

Sullivan said the US appreciates Egypt’s efforts to contain the situation in the Gaza Strip and prevent its deterioration, in addition to launching the initiative to reconstruct the Palestinian enclave.

They agreed to continue coordinating to ensure a permanent ceasefire, in order to improve the humanitarian and living conditions of the Palestinians.
