Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated on Monday the first international defense and military industries exhibition (EDEX 2018.)
He visited the Egyptian pavilion of the exhibit that included aerial weapons and defense systems.
EDEX 2018 includes the latest technologies and innovations in the military field.
Some 373 global military industries companies from 41 countries are taking part in the expo. The United States, Egypt's largest arms supplier, had over 40 companies present, alongside major firms from Britain, France and Germany, as well as Russia, China, India and Gulf monarchies.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Defense Minister Mohammed Zaki said that his country is seeking to bolster its defense capabilities.
The Egyptian military will remain the defender and protector of the nation, he continued.
"Defense and armament are a pillar of peace. Peace must be protected by power that secures,” he stressed.
"We are seeing a shift in paradigm away from some of the heavy machinery that characterize our assistance in past years toward a more nimble kind of approach to countering terrorism," US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Dorothy Shea said.
"We are trying to share our hard-won lessons from the battlefield and help our Egyptian colleagues take advantage of that and make sure that their acquisitions of equipment are appropriate and really benefit them to the maximum."
EDEX 2018 is being held from December 3 to 5.
