Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker the progress in electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries, notably Saudi Arabia, Greece and Cyprus.

The presidency spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Rady, said the meeting addressed the nationwide projects of the Ministry of Electricity, especially in the new and renewable energy sectors.

He added that Shaker briefed the president on national projects in the electricity generation sector from new and renewable energy sources, mainly wind and solar energy, in collaboration and partnership with foreign expertise.

Egypt's integrated and sustainable energy strategy aims to reach 42 percent of renewable energy in the electricity energy mix by 2035, ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) that will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.

The presidency's statement noted that Sisi stressed the importance of expanding efforts to manufacture components for producing new and renewable energy, particularly wind turbines and solar panels, to enhance the role of renewable energy.

Sisi indicated that the main objective is to diversify the energy supply sources on which the country's development process depends.

It comes in addition to the comprehensive modernization of the national electricity grid system in Egypt, in terms of power generation, transmission lines, distribution stations, and advanced electronic control centers.

Shaker also reviewed the progress in the cooperation with international experts in green hydrogen energy generation using renewable energy, in line with the national strategy.

Sisi emphasized the need to continue to strengthen efforts to this end, given the growing global interest in green hydrogen projects as a promising energy source in the future.
