Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi called on the government Saturday to take “decisive” action to protect state property from violations.
In a meeting held with a number of ministers, head of the Egyptian intelligence service and Central Bank governor, Sisi ordered the concerned bodies to "confront all kinds of violations, safeguard the state’s rights and deal with this issue according to the law."
During the inauguration of a number of housing projects in Alexandria on Wednesday, Sisi had slammed provincial and military officials, as well as ministers, for the state’s failure to reap what it is owed.
He criticized the violation of some individuals of state land and the reluctance of others to pay dues for leasing property in government-owned areas.
He also ordered the interior minister, Alexandria’s governor and the military commander of the northern region to devise a strategy to deal with illegal housing across the area, describing it as an issue of national security.
In addition, the participants at Saturday’s meeting discussed efforts to improve the highway routes in Egypt, said presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi.
Sisi ordered the development of the transport system in the country by expanding the application of smart transport systems, he explained.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the major national projects in various development sectors, including infrastructure and new urban communities.
“The president stressed the need to continue working according to the timetables set for completion of these projects and in line with the highest international standards,” the spokesperson said.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to develop Egypt's petroleum, natural gas and mineral resources to increase domestic production and reduce imports.
