Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has briefed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on developments regarding the Renaissance Dam and talks held in Washington on Nov. 6.

According to the Middle East News Agency in Egypt, Sisi dispatched a message to the Algerian president.

It was delivered by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Arab Affairs in the Arab Republic of Egypt Ambassador Yasser Othman as he met on Saturday Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum.

Egypt's Ambassador to Algeria Ayman Mosharafa said Saturday that the letter is about the Renaissance Dam – it tackled the Egyptian stance towards the Dam and the negotiations in this regard.

Moreover, the Egyptian Ministry of Emigration affirmed that the Egyptians in the US launched a campaign to sign a memorandum that urges the US administration to exert more efforts to support the Dam and protect Egypt’s water rights in the Nile River.

The Egyptians’ move abroad followed a European tour by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to Belgium and France. Earlier, he visited Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and UAE to push towards making Ethiopia sign the filling and operate the Dam.

Egypt received Arab support before through the Arab Foreign Ministers Council decision which rejected any violation of Egypt’s historic rights in the Nile waters.

Notably, the negotiations among Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan – ongoing since 4 months under the US and the World Bank patronage – were hindered when Ethiopia absented itself form the last meeting in Washington at the end of Feb.

Further, Minister of Immigration & Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram said Saturday that the Egyptians abroad are always ready to support their country in its darkest phases.
