CHANDIGARH: The police, on Wednesday, arrested a Sirsa man for raping a 17-year-old on the pretext of marriage. Accused Virat Anand, 21, was produced before a local court, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
The girl said in her police complaint, “I met the accused through social media and we became friends about two years ago. Promising to marry me, he visited the city and took me to a hotel in Sector 45 where he raped me. This continued and when I asked him to marry me, he refused.”
After verifying the facts and conducting her medical examination, police registered a case against Virat on April 9.
