Siriki Dembele in Rangers and Celtic transfer clue as Peterborough take hardline player stance

Wantaway Siriki Dembele was missing from Peterborough's season opener amid links with Rangers and Celtic.

The Glasgow rivals have been touted with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the summer after he was transfer listed by Posh.

The winger was a top performer under Darren Ferguson last season as they earned promotion from League One.

That reportedly caught the eye of Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson as he entered the final year of his contract at the club, with club chief Barry Fry claiming scouts had been sent to monitor his progress from Ibrox.

He has also noted the long held interest of Celtic in the attacker, with his brother Karamoko already in Glasgow's east end.

And English Championship rivals Bournemouth, Stoke and Fulham were all linked with the star man.

With no movement on a contract extension, the player has been placed on the transfer list at the club.

That now looks to have taken a step further with Dembele being left out of the squad completely for the defeat to Luton.

The attacker reached double figures in the scoring charts in the third tier but boss Ferguson dropped him from the squad.

He had previously featured in pre-season fixtures against Bedford and Stamford.
