Sirens star signs two-year deal after brilliant breakthrough season

Strathclyde Sirens star Niamh McCall is back with the side, having signed a new two-year deal.

The Strathaven goal attack star returns for the Vitality Netball Superleague 2022 season, but has extended her deal further, having made her breakthrough last term.

Long-bomb queen McCall, who is in her fourth year at University of Strathclyde and is studying sports design engineering, enjoyed a good season last time out, and knows what it takes to get the job done.

Last season was Sirens’ best yet, with a top-six finish, narrowly missing out on a play-off spot .

It was also a very positive campaign for the 21-year-old individually, too, after sharing the Most Improved Player prize with Biggar’s Emily Nicholl at the club’s awards.

McCall can’t wait to getting back out on the court with her teammates and getting stuck in.

She said: “I am very excited to be continuing my journey with Sirens.

“I felt my game developed a lot last season and, as a team, we showed everyone what we knew we were capable of.

“So, I’m looking forward to seeing what the next season brings.”

McCall made the step up last term and enjoyed where it took her.

She said: “I’ve been on the bench for the last two years, so to finally get my opportunity, and for the coaches to see that I;m improving, it does mean a lot, and that it’s paying off.

“Once I got back from injury, actually starting to play was good, because I had been on the bench.

“I think I’ve taken a massive step up and realised what is expected of me in that goal-attack position, what my role is, and what is needed.

“You learn a lot from playing.

“I think I have taken that step up, which is needed for my personal gain, and then I can push on.”

Last season’s Most Improved Player award was voted for by head coach Lesley MacDonald, and she said: “Niamh is another exciting young shooter, who really made her mark last season.

“She is a constant threat within the shooting circle with great court craft.

“After a tremendous breakthrough season, I am looking forward to seeing her development and challenge her next level.”
