Sirens star Lynsey Gallagher injured in Superleague win

East Kilbride’s Lynsey Gallagher was injured three minutes into Strathclyde Sirens’ brilliant 52-35 Vitality Netball Superleague win over Celtic Dragons on Sunday.

But team-mate and player of the match Bethan Goodwin still paid tribute to her contribution so far, with two wins from the Emirates side’s opening three games.

Goodwin was forced up front into a position she was unfamiliar with, and says she owes a lot to Gallagher.

She said: “I was so surprised, it was really unfortunate.

“Lynsey went down in the third minute, I think it was, and I had to go out to goal attack, which is a position I don’t usually play.

“My initial instinct was ‘I hope Lynsey’s OK’ but as a team we needed to adapt to that change, because she couldn’t continue for the rest of the match.

“I have to take my hat off to all my team-mates who helped me adapt in that position, because I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”

Gallagher had been an integral part in the 36-30 win over Severn Stars last week, with Sirens losing their opener 53-36 against Manchester Thunder.

Sirens are next in action when they take on London Pulse on Sunday, with a 2pm start. They then have a break until March 14, when they take on Saracens Mavericks.

All of the games are streamed live on the Sky Sports YouTube channel.
