Sir Tom Jones pays tribute to songwriter behind his classics It's Not Unusual and Delilah

Sir Tom Jones has paid tribute to songwriter Les Reed who wrote songs like It's Not Unusual and Delilah.

Writing on Instagram, the Welsh singer described his "friend and colleague" as a "gifted songwriter and arranger who was instrumental in penning many a hit".

He added: "Les was a lovely man, a legend in the world of songwriting whose legacy will live through his music. RIP Les."

The songwriter had written more than 60 major hits during his career and had earned numerous gold discs, Ivor Novello Awards and the British Academy Gold Badge of Merit.

He penned It's Not Unusual with Sir Tom's manager Gordon Mills, and also arranged and played piano on the song.

Delilah, which was another top ten hit, was also written by Les and his songwriting partner Barry Mason.

He also wrote songs for Engelbert Humperdinck, Des O'Connor and Petula Clark.
