Sir Tom Jones announces UK tour - and there are clues an 80th birthday gig in Wales will be added

It's been almost a year since Sir Tom Jones last hinted at plans for him to perform a very special gig back in his native country.

"Wales, I hear you loud and clear - special things take time," he announced on social media back in February 2019, in response to his Welsh fan base's growing impatience for information about possible homecoming concerts.

And now the Voice of the Valleys has done it again, whipping his followers into a frenzy of excitement with the news he's finally hitting the road in the coming months to celebrate two massive milestones - his 80th birthday and the 55th anniversary of his debut hit single It's Not Unusual.

But, while the singing superstar's first batch of tour dates don't include any in Wales, all of the shows scheduled so far take place after his landmark birthday, which is set to fall on Sunday, June 7.

As a result, many are convinced Sir Tom is keeping the special date clear in his diary for a big bash back in his old stamping ground of Pontypridd.

The last time the legendary entertainer performed at the town's Ynysangharad Park was back in 2005, when he played to a sold-out audience of thousands for his 65th birthday - several years after his acclaimed Reload album introduced him to a brand new generation of admirers.

Tickets for that iconic show were emblazoned with the cover of the singer's classic 1966 From The Heart album - a shot of a young Tom standing on a South Wales hillside overlooking his home town.

And that very same image was also posted on Facebook by Sir Tom last year, accompanied with the tease, "You never know what is on the horizon."

So, could that long-awaited date finally be about to happen?

Tickets for Sir Tom's first batch of UK dates - including Hull, Norwich and Newmarket - go on sale on Friday January 31 via ticketmaster.co.uk. For more information, go to www.tomjones.com.
