Sir Stirling Moss funeral plans confirmed but coronavirus halts celebration of F1 legend

Motor racing great Sir Stirling Moss will be cremated at a private family ceremony.

The legend died peacefully at home in the early hours of Easter morning, with his wife, Lady Susie, by his side.

The motor racing legend, 90, passed away following a long illness.

Tributes have since flooded in from across the world for Moss, who won 212 of his 529 races in various competitions.

Despite being recognised as one of the greatest drivers of all time, he ultimately became known as the best driver never to win a Formula One title.

Now plans are being made for his cremation, albeit with the coronavirus pandemic meaning only eight to 10 family members will be allowed in attendance.

However, Lady Moss has revealed that she is also planning a celebration of his life, when the crisis allows.

“He will be burned up and put in a little pot, as was his wish,” Lady Moss, told the Daily Mail.

“When the time comes my pot can go next to his and then we can be thrown away together.

“We will have eight or 10 family members at the cremation. That is all we are allowed in the circumstances.

“It would have been nice to have gone to a restaurant and had some drinks to celebrate his life but that will have to wait.

“We can have a big party in the future.”

Moss didn't stop driving in events until he was 81 (PA)

Earlier this week Lewis Hamilton led tributes to Moss, labelling him an “incredible comrade”.

He said: “It was such an unusual pairing, our friendship. Two people from different times and backgrounds but we clicked.”

Three-times F1 champion Stewart led the chorus of acclaim for a godfather of motor sport, hailing Moss as “a man that will never be replaced."
