Sir Stirling Moss dead: Motor racing and Formula 1 legend dies aged 90

Formula 1 racing legend Sir Stirling Moss has died aged 90.

Sir Stirling, widely considered the greatest driver to never win the F1 championship, died at home in Mayfair, London.

His wife Lady Moss, confirmed that the four-time drivers' championship runner up died on Easter Sunday, reports the Press Association.

Londoner Sir Stirling won 212 races in his F1 driving career, which stretched from 1951 to 1961.

Between 1955 and 1961, he finished as runner-up in the drivers' championship four times.

Although Sir Stirling never won the championship, he is considered to be one of the greatest drivers of all time.

Throughout much of his career, Sir Stirling competed with Argentinian F1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio, who won five championships and is arguably the best driver ever to race an F1 car.

Sir Stirling also raced in the iconic Le Mans and Mille Miglia events. He was knighted in 2000.
