Sir Sean Connery's younger brother Neil dies after long battle with illness

The younger brother of Edinburgh-born actor Sean Connery has died aged 83.

Neil Connery was also an actor who starred in the spoof Bond film Operation Kid Brother.

It is understood that he passed away this morning after a long battle with an illness.

It comes as Sean Connery passed away on Halloween last year aged 90 after suffering heart failure.

Confirming the news of Neil's death, close friend Steve Begg wrote on Facebook: "My good friend and Edinburgh drinking buddy Neil Connery passed away early this morning I'm sad to report.

"He considered me a lackluster challenge when it came to the drinking stakes but I considered him with respect.

"He looked and sounded like his big bro so going out with him was always interesting to say the leasht. Mish you Neil.”

Neil leaves behind his wife Eleanor and daughters Martine and Leone.

He lived with his wife Eleanor at a bungalow in the capital area of Corstorphine.

He had been left devastated by the passing of his older brother last year and found not being able to travel to the Bahamas to visit him in his final moments upsetting.

His wife previously told the Daily Record: "He's just very upset at losing his only brother."

Eleanor said: "He would've gone but, of course, given the times we're in, nobody can travel anywhere for any reason so that's upsetting too."
