Sir Rod Stewart was too busy 'sh**ging' in the 70s to bother writing songs

Sir Rod Stewart says he was too busy “sh**ging” in the Seventies to bother writing any songs.

The rocker, 76 – who says he has lost count of the number of women he has slept with – was in relationships with actress Britt Ekland, model Dee Harrington and actress Alana Hamilton that decade.

And the star says laziness stopped him composing lyrics.

Although Rod – who told Loose Women yesterday he had a “naughty winkle” as a nipper – doesn’t sound that lazy...

He said: “The Faces used to lock me in a room. Give me wine, a tape recorder and paper and they’d locked the door until I got the lyrics because I was lazy. In the Seventies, there was too much shagging and drinking to do.”

Chatting to Apple Music, he explains why he takes his 45ft by 30ft model railway set on tour.

Rod spends downtime building his skyscraper-filled landscape in an adjoining hotel room specially set up for his trains, to avoid spending his time in his room “masturbating or whatever”.

“It’s a wonderful, three dimensional hobby,” he says... of the train set, obviously.
