Sir Rod Stewart pictured shopping at local Tescos as he launches own whisky brand

Shoppers were forced to do a double-take when Sir Rod Stewart was spotted perusing the aisles of Tescos in Bishop’s Stortford.

The legendary singer, 79, walked around the supermarket near his Essex mansion with a shopping basket in hand, but it wasn't your run of the mill groceries that he was after.

The Maggie May hit-maker was in store to check out his Scotch whiskey brand, Wolfie’s Whisky, which has just hit shelves at the retail chain.

During his visit, the London-born star was snapped posing proudly in front of shelves stocked with the alcoholic beverage before queuing up at a check out to buy a bottle to take home.

Sir Rod also seemed in good spirits as he posed for pictures with delighted supermarket workers.

It must be noted that he didn't exactly dress down for the outing, sporting an eye-catching blue coat and bright patterned scarf.

Speaking at the supermarket, Sir Rod said: "It’s just wonderful to see Wolfie’s in pride of place here at Tesco.

"I’m delighted to think it’s even easier for people to pick up a bottle of Wolfie’s and it’s been lovely speaking to the team here in Bishop’s Stortford to see what they thought of it.

"They certainly have a taste for the good stuff."

Tesco isn't the only surprising location that has popped up at lately.

Last month he gave an impromptu musical performance with Jools Holland for commuters at St Pancras International train station.

It was to promote their upcoming joint album, Swing Fever, which will be released on February 23 via Warner Music.
