Sir Rod Stewart buys boat for wife Penny Lancaster's 50th birthday and fulfils lifelong dream

Sir Rod Stewart fulfilled his beloved wife Penny Lancaster's dreams on her 50th birthday - by buying her a boat.

The We Are Sailing rocker, 76, can now live up to his iconic song after purchasing a narrowboat for the couple to manoeuvre down the river near their sprawling Essex home.

Speaking on Loose Women, Penny revealed it has always been her dream to have a canal boat and renovate it in a bid for a 'slower' lifestyle.

Penny said: "In the first lockdown I realised I quite enjoyed slowing down and a more simple life.

"The second lockdown was a bit tougher, and I thought, 'I need to think of something, a hobby, where I can slow down', and there is a lovely river near us that snakes its way down to London.

"There are lovely little narrowboats, and I thought my dream would be to get a little narrowboat and do it up. So that's what Rod got me."

Penny opened up on her 50th birthday bash, which involved a virtual call with her pals who all performed to one of Celtic-daft Rod's songs.

The model, who married Rod in 2007, said: "Well how wonderful is Zoom?

"I was able to have a zoom party and all my girlfriends secretly did their own video to one of Rod’s songs, that they played to me on the night of my birthday.

"We had a drink and I had so many cards and flowers, it was just wonderful.

"Normally we could catch up and go for dinner or drinks somewhere, but it was nice to get the extra special attention people paid to remembering the past and their fondest memories about you.

"We wouldn't usually get that opportunity in one night. "
