Sir Rod Stewart, 75, goes shopping for surfboards instead of being in lockdown

Sir Rod Stewart has been holed up in self isolation with his family for some time now, but a relentless need for surf boards was what got them out and about.

The star was joined by his wife Penny Lancaster, 49, and their sons Alastair, 14, and Aiden, nine, as well as Rod's son Sean, 39, from his previous marriage to Alana Hamilton.

The family seemed in high spirits as they shopped for surfing gear in sunny Florida - one of the few states which has not been placed on a strict lockdown yet.

The singer, 75, managed to find an open sports shop from which he purchased a brand spanking new surf board that his son Alistair clutched under his arm.

The family made sure to sanitise their hands after they left the store.

Penny donned a summery outfit consisting of flip flops and a flowy beach cover-up as the rest of the clan followed suit.

It comes as Rod and his brood joined in on the Clap for Carers last week despite being a whopping 4,372 miles away.

Rod, who has eight kids, was also joined by son Sean, 39, and daughter Ruby, 32, who earlier enjoyed a sun-soaked walk on the beach with her two dogs.

Rod, 75, said: “Our family want to say a huge thank-you to everyone working in the NHS, as well as to all the healthcare workers and emergency services that are helping keep Britain’s families safe in these extremely difficult times.”

The family then erupted into cheers as they clapped in the video posted onto the musicians Instragram page.

All citizens over the age of 70 must be quarantined for the upcoming months as the UK government fights the pandemic.

And the proud Scotlast week made the best of his self-isolation as he tackled clutter at his Florida home.

The 75-year-old threw out old paint pots and other rubbish, saying: “Taking this time at home to have a clear-out of the garage.”
