Sir Michael Palin fears for the BBC's future as he claims corporation has 'changed'

Sir Michael Palin has said he is “worried” about the BBC’s future.

The Monty Python legend, 77, claimed the corporation has changed and it is too anxious not to offend anyone.

He said: “I am worried about the BBC because I believe the BBC to be one of the most important institutions in the country. An institution, having travelled the world, it is usually admired wherever I go but I can see times are changing.”

Asked by Jeremy Paxman on his podcast The Lock In if the Beeb was its own “worst enemy”, Palin, replied: “I think, yeah.”

The BBC has found itself under fire with the Tories questioning its impartiality and pressures over the licence fee.

Palin added people are being “conned” by claims other platforms are cheaper than the Beeb.

The star, whose BBC2 show The Deep South, set in Brazil, aired on Sunday, said his heart scare will not stop him travelling again once lockdown ends.

He added: “I have another trip in me.”
