Sir Michael Caine, 92, seen using wheelchair at dinner with unlikely A-lister

Sir Michael Caine has been spotted using a wheelchair as he went out for dinner with his close friend, Vin Diesel.

The Italian Job star, 92, has been seen using a walking frame or a cane in the past after a nasty fall on ice in 2018 left him with a broken ankle.

Caine, who retired from acting in 2023, was pushed in the wheelchair by Diesel during a gathering at the River Cafe in Hammersmith, London, on Wednesday, in photos obtained by Metro.

Caine and Diesel, 57, co-starred in the 2015 movie, The Last Witch Hunter, and have been “dear” friends for decades. Diesel - real name Mark Sinclair - recently said they are working on an independent project called Mark and Maurice.

Caine - who attended the dinner with his former model wife Shakira, 77 - had a plaster on his face and was seen singing happy birthday to Fast and Furious star Diesel, who turns 58 next week.

The group were also joined by Diesel’s long-time partner Paloma Jiménez and his two children.

Caine has been using mobility aids since breaking his ankle in 2018.

“Michael slipped and broke his ankle in his garden during the recent heavy snow. He is in fine health and great spirits,” his spokesperson said at the time.

Later that year, the Inception star said: “It’s coming along fine. It’s just tremendous inconvenience.”

The two-time Oscar winner previously said he’s been “great friends” with Diesel since meeting him at a dinner party about 30 years ago.

He said he "just liked the guy immediately," in his memoir, Don't Look Back, You'll Trip Over: My Guide to Life, per Entertainment Weekly.

"It turned out he was going through some tough times back then, so I think perhaps it made an impression upon him to be embraced and treated with love," he penned.

"Anyway, we’ve been great friends ever since."

Diesel praised their “healing and loving” friendship in an Instagram post from June 30, which showed the duo smiling while posing together.

"Filming The Last Witch Hunter with Michael was such a dream come true,” he wrote.

“The response from people discovering it now is surreal — getting to work alongside one of my dearest friends and seeing people connect with that story years later… That’s really the magic of this business.

"Michael and I have been close friends for decades. He came into my life after I had lost a childhood friend who became a New York City police officer and lost his life in the line of duty — one of my personal reasons for filming that infamous New York detective.

“Somehow Michael’s friendship was healing and loving, and I’ve been blessed to have him in my life."

He added that he and Caine "started working on an independent project called Mark and Maurice" over a year ago and concluded: "I can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to.”
