Sir Kenny Dalglish sends important message to Liverpool youngsters after hammering at Aston Villa

Sir Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on Liverpool 's young guns after the 5-0 loss in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup at Aston Villa.

The clash with the FIFA Club World Cup forced the Reds into naming two squads for the two different games in the space of 24 hours.

Coach Neil Critchley was given the duties for the match at Villa Park as Jurgen Klopp and the senior side prepare for their encounter against Monterrey in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup tomorrow.

It was always going to be difficult for Critchley's youngsters and despite a promising start, the Reds fell to a 5-0 defeat thanks to goals for the hosts from Conor Hourihane, Morgan Boyes' own goal, two Jonathan Kodjia strikes and Wesley Moraes' effort.

But Liverpool fans have provided plenty of backing for the youngsters, with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Herbie Kane in particular standing out.

Those supporters have now been joined by club legend Dalglish , who showered the young guns with praise on Twitter.

Daglish tweeted : "What a great effort from a very young @LFC team tonight. They represented themselves and the Club very well. Fantastic support from our fans to encourage them. A memorable night for players, staff, and fans, despite the score line."
