Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea pledge amid Man Utd takeover talk

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already made his Man Utd takeover pledge to try and get them 'consistently' challenging yet again for the major honours domestically with Man City and Liverpool and on the European scale with Real Madrid and others.

As quoted by The Times, a spokesman for the Ineos owner confirmed that Ratcliffe would be open to beginning talks with the United owners. The spokesman said: "If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer. If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership. "This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset." Will it be second time lucky for the British Billionaire who has a net worth of around £6.3billion?

With the news that the Glazer family are looking to sell a minority stake with a view of eventually relinquishing full power once the stock price allows them to generate the most money, Ratcliffe is understood to be keen on eventually building up his power at Old Trafford. That itself should come as a warning to all the Red Devils' Premier League rivals who are currently not viewing Erik ten Hag's side as credible competition for the top four this term due to their horrific start which has seen two losses already in their first two outings against Brighton and most recently Brentford FC.

The Man Utd supporter himself would aim to fully revamp the club, top to toe, to ensure that just like his other club OGC Nice, people start to envy their growth and development.

With an overall value on his own of £10.8bn, which is behind the owners and ownership groups of Newcastle, Man City and Chelsea but ahead of Arsenal, the money would certainly be there regularly to help transform a side that hasn't won a single trophy since Jose Mourinho's double which was achieved back in 2016.

As already mentioned when trying to make a late and successful Chelsea bid, Ratcliffe wants to see whoever he owns perform and achieve 'consistently' at the highest level.

Something which will come as music to the ears of Man Utd supporters as their new potential owner also name-checked their local rivals Man City and Liverpool as examples to follow.

He said in a BBC Sport interview when seriously interested in Chelsea back in May 2022: "No, I don't think it has been consistently been where you would put a Real Madrid, Barcelona or a Bayern Munich.

"And it [Chelsea] are a notch below Liverpool and Man City at the moment. But it's about consistency, isn't it? Liverpool are having a fantastic time at the moment. But for 20 years, they didn't win anything.

"United were very good, but in the last 10 years, they haven't done so well. If you look at a Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, they are more present in that company of that top eight, quarter-finals of the Champions League. They are consistently there for a long period of time and across generations."

Ratcliffe certainly has his work cut out if he was to stop United's six-year trophy drought from turning into a Liverpool-type 20 one.
