Sir Geoff Hurst sends message to Harry Kane over potential Man City transfer

England legend Sir Geoff Hurst has told Tottenham Hotspur to let their captain Harry Kane leave.

Linked with a summer transfer to defending Premier League champions Manchester City, Spurs opted to rebuff any offers for their talisman which saw Kane reluctantly pledge his future to the club.

City didn’t sign a striker prior to the season and it is believed they will revive their interest in Kane next summer or make a move for Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland with his release clause believed to be £77million.

Kane has looked a shadow of himself in the league and is yet to find the back of the net in England’s top-flight this season, though he does have six goals across the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup.

His inability to find the back of the net in the league has led to Sir Geoff saying Spurs should let Kane leave, which would be great for City.

He told talkSport's Warm Up : “To be honest with you, I get on with the Spurs players, we were great pals years ago. The thing I would say about the Spurs situation quite clearly – they should let Harry Kane go.

“Keeping a player who wants to move on, and maybe deserves an opportunity playing in the Champions League.

“Keeping him there with resistance is not necessarily good for the player and not necessarily good for the club.

“I think they should move him on, personally.

“Let’s get this right, I’m not being detrimental about to Spurs or the club. They are a fantastic club and I’m great pals with the players from years ago.

“I never go along with this Spurs-West Ham antagonistic attitude. I never went along with that.

“I’m saying it purely as an outsider looking at the player and the club.

“The club is great. They have a great ground. He’s a fantastic player but I think the time is to move on and progress. It’s my humble opinion about this situation.”

City missed a number of chances in the first-half against Liverpool on Sunday and were forced to come behind twice thanks to Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne goals in a pulsating 2-2 draw at Anfield.
