Sir Elton John settles £10 football bet with Gary Lineker

Sir Elton John has settled a £10 bet with Gary Lineker after his beloved Watford Football Club lost to Leicester City.

Sharing a picture of a note from the legendary singer-songwriter along with a crisp £10 note, the football pundit explained that it was to settle a score regarding a match between Leicester City and Watford.

Sir Elton is a staunch supporter of Watford and was the former chairman for his local team, having been involved in the club since 1976.

He was forced to admit defeat however, when they lost 2-0 during this season’s Championship in November to Leicester, who Lineker played for back in the day.

"Never let it be said that Elton John doesn’t pay his debts. Leicester 2 Watford 0," he wrote alongside the image.

The note read: "Dear Gary, Sorry this is late! With Christmas we were left a little short! Have a great new year. It was so great to see you! Thank you. Love Elton."

In November, a fan-driven campaign saw the road outside Watford's stadium renamed in Sir Elton's honour.

The name has now been changed from Occupation Road to Yellow Brick Road, after Sir Elton's 1973 hit album with bright yellow signs up to mark the moment.Speaking about the honour, he said: "Using Yellow Brick Road is a really fantastic, clever way for supporters to have played their part in recognising a time when I was here pretty much every day – on this amazing journey with Graham Taylor [former Watford manager].

"Along with the stand being named after me here at Vicarage Road, I feel very specially treated. And, even coming back here on a non-matchday, there’s still a buzz for me because this is where I fell in love with football and my club.

"As I’ve said many times before, Watford Football Club has done more for me in my lifetime than I ever did for it."
