Sir Elton John pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth and says he will 'miss her dearly'

Sir Elton John is among the stars paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth, describing her as "a huge part of his life from childhood to this day". The star is well-known to the Royal Family - he performed at the Platinum Party at the Palace in June and famously sang Candle in the Wind at Princess Diana's funeral.

The singer songwriter said the Queen, who died on Thursday afternoon, was an "inspiring presence" and he would "miss her dearly". His full tribute reads: "Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's passing.

"She was an inspiring presence to be around, and lead the country through some of our greatest, and darkest, moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth. Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly."

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the monarch died peacefully at her Balmoral residence in Scotland. She was 96 and had reigned for 70 years.
