Conservative MP Sir David Amess has been killed after an attack at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.
Essex Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion murder.
“We were called to Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm. Sadly, a man later died. A man was arrested at the scene. We are not looking for anyone else,” police said.
Chief constable Ben-Julian Harrington later said the investigation would be led by counter-terrorism officers.
Tributes have poured in for Sir David, who had been an MP since 1983 and the MP for Southend West since 1997, while a vigil was held at a local church.
