Sir Clive Woodward claims George North is a defensive risk England can exploit but marvels at Wales' 'Lions back three'

Sir Clive Woodward has pointed to George North's "inexperience" defending the 13 channel as an area England could exploit.

North, who is set to earn his 100th cap and become the youngest player to do so on Saturday, has been named at 13 alongside Jonathan Davies at 12 for the Six Nations clash.

While 28-year-old North "offers much in attack", Sir Clive ponders whether Eddie Jones' men will be able to capitalise on other areas of his game in the Triple Crown showdown.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, he said: "George North continues his late-career switch to outside centre and although he offers much in attack I wonder if England can exploit his inexperience defending that channel."

He claims "tired" England - who will be on edge - are not the side to give Wales a sleepless night, saying "it is still, barring injury, basically the side that got thumped in the World Cup final in 2019".

He believes Wales are due a big game, with "potential match winners all over the park", and believes Wayne Pivac's starting back-three could be heading on the Lions series.

"That back three of Liam Williams, Louis Rees-Zammit and Josh Adams could easily be a Lions back three. And is there a better back row in world rugby than Taulupe Faletau, Josh Navidi and Justin Tipuric?

"This is a Wales side that had to think twice about bringing back a world-class player such as Jonathan Davies at centre and are unleashing young Kieran Hardy at nine who has just three caps. He is keeping out Gareth Davies, who has been talked about as a Lions scrum-half."

But World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive declares that "nervous" England can still win it.

He adds: "That front five can cause a lot of damage and I expect England to play a conservative kicking game, trying to take the tempo out of the match. It’s not how I like to see rugby played by England. It won’t win you a World Cup but England will be incredibly physical and it might just suffice."
